If only I had used a Keyword Researcher from the start… You see once upon a time, I dreamt of starting a freelance writing business and make money writing. I wanted to write for a living. After all, I am a natural born writer – making money writing seemed like the online business best suited for me.
This is part of the reply I got the other day after asking my clients “What would you say to people who don’t use a professional Keyword researcher?” Here’s the rest of the email.
Before I Got Smarter…
I embarked on my goal with a lot of enthusiasm, as most online entrepreneurs do. I wanted to make money online fast! I knew the importance of keywords, as most people trying to make money online do. BUT I didn’t know the value of a good keyword researcher at that time. I bought several e-books and e-courses on keyword research and I purchased some keyword research software with the hope that these will tell me exactly which keywords I should target for my freelance writing business. I spend many hours reading these e-books and learning the keyword research software.
Getting my business up and running seemed simple enough – I set up my website and I wrote the content. I did the usual online marketing stuff using my keywords. I was excited to be ‘in business’. I waited for orders to come in. No orders came in! I wanted to start earning money online, but it was not happening.
After about three months with only a few visitors to my site, and no writing jobs, it seemed I was doing something wrong. The keyword tool I had used was quite difficult to learn and use, so I spend more time learning it, with the hope that I can get better keywords from it. I re-read the e-book on how to find keywords.
I went back and added in some other keywords I thought would help. Still, the website traffic was mediocre, at best. I didn’t have any new orders. I had spent several thousand dollars at this point on the website, the keyword research tool, the keyword e-books and e-courses, and in advertising and building backlinks. I had also seen keyword researcher services being offered but didn’t think to use them.
After spending a lot of time and money, I was not making any money. I didn’t even have one single writing job. Having spend long hours researching for my keywords, mostly after a long day at work – I was angry, sad and in despair. I had written and submitted dozens of articles. I had spent a lot of money in getting some backlinks done for me website.
Realizing that all this effort and investment has been a waste made me feel very upset and frustrated. I felt like a failure. My dream of making money online was slipping away. To make matters worse, my job was becoming more stressful, and I wanted out. But I had bills to pay, so I had to keep working the nine to five job.
It has been estimated that over ninety percent of online businesses fail – this means everyday people like you and me are losing money, wasting time, and then quitting. I almost became one of these failed online businesses. Maybe you are at a point in your online business where you are almost giving up. Or you have invested a lot of time and money in your business, but you are not making any money. I would like you to learn from my mistake and find out the benefit of hiring a keyword researcher.
When I Finally Realized My Mistake…
Frustrated, one day I decided to search for my own website, using the keywords I thought were used well on my site, which I got using the keyword software and the keyword e-books. I couldn’t find my site! I tried other keywords and still, I wasn’t coming up on the search engine first page – or even the second page. I even looked on the tenth page of search engine results and I could not see my website! This was a shock. I truly thought I had chosen keywords that would help me to rank high in search engines and drive traffic to my website. At that moment, I stopped my business, stopped my marketing and advertising activities, and decided to start over from scratch.
It dawned on me that I needed a professional keyword researcher. and hired Dan and the Team.
